It makes me really sad to see the end of the podcast, it basically single-handedly introduced me to the world of indie comics.
Prior to 2014, I didn't really follow many comic creators except Jamie Smart (who, incidentally, was the one who recommended the podcast in the first place) but I very quickly began to learn about different creators as I worked my way through the back catalogue. Being only months away from becoming parents for the first time, I have distinct memories of binging episode-after-episode as I decorated the nursery that Summer in 2014.
After that, it just became a constant companion as I began to find my feet as an artist again after years of inactivity. Even now, I'll go back and re-listen to interviews because they're all still so relevant and there's always something to learn from them.
I can totally appreciate the reasons why you've chosen to end it so as sad as I am to see it go, I'm excited to see what you work on in the future.
So I guess all that's left to do is say a huge thank you for making the podcast in the first place (and thanks for having me on too - though I'm not anywhere near the same calibre as other guests!).
Best of luck Dan! Hope to see you in person soon at a con :)
Thank you Dan for everything you’ve done!!!! Your podcast was one of the most useful to me as an artist, with consistently fascinating, rich talks about craft. I admire you for following your interests and focusing on the work you love most, even if that means the podcast has to stop. Keep being great!!
Dan, this was my very favourite podcast and I always hoped that one day I would finish making something good enough to get to be on it! Thank you for all the years of hugely enjoyable, funny, reassuring, informative and nerdy chat with so many interesting people, some of whom I later met and felt a connection with because I'd heard them talking with you. I learnt a lot. That's dreadful about all the crap you had to put up with. I look forward to seeing what you do next!
I can't tell you how much I love this podcast. It's the main one, to me. The one that changed my taste in comics, inspired me to make my own, soundtracked my long walks when I was struggling for work or furloughed. It always impressed me when you talked about your staggering work ethic and fascination with the details and problem solving, especially when a guest could speak to those qualities too.
Selfishly, I'm going to miss having new episodes to get me through life but having put my own podcast on 'hiatus' last year after only 20 episodes I know only too well the work involved in each new edit and how you have to measure that work against your own time.
I will miss your voice and the guests and the conversations that kept me company for many years and taught me that if you ask 12 cartoonists how they do what they do, you'll get more than 12 different answers. I've been happy to support you and the podcast on Patreon.
But more than my sadness at having this come to an end, is my sadness with too many of our fellow humans who have not been kind and GRATEFUL to you for the gift you gave us into the world.
And I appreciate the courage it takes to say "yes, I'm done with that" and move on into things that feed you first.
The podcast was what introduced me to you as a creator, it lead to me realising you were a lecturer and that you taught, wait, COMICS?! Which lead to me enrolling and now leads to this comment.
I only regret that I enrolled too late, but it was still a worthwhile endeavor because Adele is great. It's been truly inspiring seeing what you've done post-teaching and creators like yourself, Charlie and Christian are among my personal Mount Rushmore (or English equivalent). So, thank you, Dan.
Your podcast has always been one of my absolute favorites of all time so I'm sad to see it go, but can totally understand the reasoning and wish you all the best with whatever comes next. If you ever decide to compile all the podcasts into one easy download I would totally pay to have my own personal copy. Your conversations with the various creators was always so interesting to listen too and I learned a lot. Thanks!!!!!
Thank you, Dan, for all the pleasure your podcast has given me over the years. I smiled at the sound of the opening tune, knowing I was going to listen to an uplifting, creative conversation. I chuckled along to the jokes, smiled as the discussion got sidetracked, and learnt a little. I am sad there will be no more, but pleased you will continue to do fun projects. My best wishes.
Thank you Dan for an incredible podcast series. Fantastic to find you on here and looking forward to your insightful thoughts and updates from your creative world. You’ve been a huge inspiration to the illustration and narrative community and I’m sure will continue to be so

Thank you Susan, much appreciated.

Yeah, that's some bad timing for sure. Thanks for the kind words!

Thanks for all your hard work, Dan! You leave a real treasure trove of interviews for people to listen to. It was a joy to be on your show! xx

This was hands-down the best comics podcast out there, so interesting and informative. Thanks so much!
